Cakes & Ale perform Shakespeare in aid of Helen & Douglas House

Cakes & Ale are on tour across Oxfordshire in the comic 'The Merry Wives of Windsor' by William Shakespeare, in aid of Helen & Douglas House. Described as a comic romp for all the family, the play will be performed in manor gardens and other wonderful surroundings.

Channel Challenge

Helen & Douglas House is inviting schools and youth groups to take on the Channel Challenge! In this wet and wild fundraising activity we challenge your group to swim a combined number of lengths to equal the width of the Channel which is 21 miles.

ABC Cup Sailing Regatta

If you have ever thought of taking part in a sailing regatta, then now is your chance to do so and raise funds for Helen and Douglas House at the same time!

This 2 day event takes place on September 18th and 19th and is open to Helen and Douglas House Supporters as well as people from the worlds of Advertising, Branding and Communications. Sailing on the Solent, between Portsmouth and Cowes, this promises to be a hugely exciting mixture of racing and fun and is suitable for all standards of sailor, as well as those with no previous sailing experience.



There is evening entertainment and a gala dinner on HMS Warrior, which is all included in the entry price.

Chadlington to Stilton Bike Ride

Cheese on Tour!

Join the Tite Inn for its annual charity bike ride, which this year is combined with British Cheese Week.

Riders will start off at Chadlington taking a selection of Cotswold cheeses to Stilton for tasting, and will then be returning with Stilton cheeses to be tasted in the Cotswolds. If you are a cheese lover and think this is an event you may be interested in then get involved!

The money raised will be split between Helen & Douglas House, Katherine House Hospice and the Oxfordshire Association for the Blind.

Run to the Beat

Starting and finishing at the O2 arena, this new run promises to be a lively and entertaining event. Live music will be played at strategic points along the route using a variety of talented bands and musicians to help you on your way.

LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon

If you fancy doing a marathon abroad then we can help! Chicago, on the shores of Lake Michigan, has one of the flattest marathon courses around, as well as the tallest building in the US and an array of shops to visit during your trip.

Entry for the 2008 Chicago Marathon will open on the 1st February 2008. This year’s marathon coincides with World Hospice Day so is a perfect opportunity to support your local hospice at a national event.

Saigon to Angkor Wat Bike Ride

This exclusive Helen & Douglas House challenge entails cycling 500kms past plantations, across waterways and through villages deep in the heart of the lush Mekong Delta in Vietnam, to the dry lands and contrasting sights of ancient Cambodia.

You will pass temples and countless colourful pagodas, havens of calm and tranquillity and bustling markets. Your route takes you off the beaten track into the Mekong proper.

Your end destination is the town of Siem Reap from where you can explore the ancient city of Angkor.

Autumn Antiques & Art Fair Radley College, Oxon

Thames Valley Antiques Dealer's Association will be holding their popular Autumn Antiques & Art Fair at Radley College, near Abingdon There will be a Circus Workshop for children with all donations going to Helen & Douglas House. Helen & Douglas House will have a stand with a special sale of rolls of furnishing fabrics at £2 per metre and there will be a “What is it?” competition for visitors to guess what various items were used for in the past. TVADA will donate £50 to Helen & Douglas House for each item which is correctly identified.
Opening hours: 11am to 6.00pm Friday24th & Saturday 25th. 11am to 5.00pm Sunday 26th October.
Circus workshop: 11am to 1.00pm 2.00 to 4.00pm each day.
Free car parking. Lunch and teas served in the dining hall.

Christmas Flower Arranging Demonstration

Ley Hill Flower Club in Chesham, Buckinghamshire is holding a Christmas flower arranging demonstration in Ley Hill Memorial Hall at 14.00 hrs. The event is open to the general public and a donation will be made to Helen & Douglas House and Shed in the Park.

Requiem Service in Caversham Reading

A Requiem service will be held at 7.30 pm on Saturday, 15 November at St Johns Church, Caversham, Reading. The service is part of St Johns 120th celebrations and there will be a retiring collection in aid of Helen & Douglas House. The service will feature music especially composed by Len David in 2008.

Sahara Desert Trek

This is an exclusive trek for the Children’s Hospice movement meaning everyone on the trek will be raising money for their local children and young adult’s hospice.

This long-weekend trekking Challenge will let you experience the beauty of one of the most breathtaking deserts in the World – the Sahara! You will trek for three days through this ever-changing landscape, and climb to the top of the Chigaga Dunes, where you will witness the desert sun-rise.

Childish Things 2009!

The show which features top names in the comedy world is being held at the New Theatre Oxford, on Thursday, 14 May 2009. The line up for the show is not finalised as yet, but if 2008 is anything to go by, tickets will sell out well in advance by reputation!

If you need persuading, the line up in 2008 included (among many other fantastic artists) Bill Bailey, Jimmy Carr and Rowan Atkinson. Children, young adults and siblings of Helen & Douglas House also took to the stage and it was a fantastic, uplifting show!
