Somerfield colleagues chose the Association of Children's Hospices (to which Helen House belongs) as their charity of the year for 2005/2006 aiming to raise more than £1.5m for the 39 children's hospices in the UK.
Since July 2005, employees and customers at the 1,100-plus Somerfield stores have raised in excess of £2.3 million. Somerfield has now extended its charity year to the end of December 2006 in response to the enthusiasm and support the partnership has received from customers and colleagues.
Helen & Douglas House would like to thank all our local Somerfield stores as they have raised around £16,000 for Helen House. This could cover the cost of a Care Team member for a year, so helping to provide the one to one care that is so crucial to the children and young people who stay with us.
