Why not consider leaving Helen & Douglas House a gift in your Will?
Legacies provide over 20% of our income, so are vitally important for us to continue providing care and support to children and young adults with life-shortening conditions and their families.
A gift doesn’t need to be large to make a real difference, and there are different ways of writing or altering your Will, so you can make sure that your loved ones are taken care of, as well as supporting a cause close to your heart.
There are also financial advantages to leaving a gift to a charity in your Will. If the value of your estate exceeds the current inheritance tax threshold, part of your estate could go to the taxman.
A gift in your Will to a registered charity is always free from inheritance tax so might considerably reduce any tax you have to pay.
Some of the ways a gift in your Will could help:
- £3,000 would give a child a 4 day respite break
- £6,400 would pay for a care team for both houses for a day
- £8,300 would pay for medical supplies for both houses for a year
- £44,800 would pay for a care team for both houses for a week
Making a Will
Any practising solicitor can write a will for you. Although it really is as simple as writing a list of the things you own and who you would like them to go to when you die, it's still important that it's written by a qualified professional.
It's also very easy to change your will - you can amend an existing will by writing a 'codicil' detailing the alterations.
There are a number of different types of Will:
- A share (or percentage) of your estate
- Money
- Specific gifts (like houses, land or other possessions)
- Gifts which are dependent on certain events, such as a donation to a charity on the condition other benefactors have already died
