Volunteering

We have a growing team of volunteers and are always looking for more. There are a number of ways in which volunteers can support us, from helping out in our charity shops, at fundraising events or even helping us maintain our gardens. A regular commitment is ideal as it helps us to plan ahead but there are also a number of other ad hoc opportunities throughout the year.

Corporate Challenge Day

As an alternative to volunteering on manual projects, we have devised a brand new Apprentice-style team building activity for volunteers to spend a day supporting the fundraising team. Teams will attempt to source a predetermined range of prizes from third party donors for Helen & Douglas House to use in auctions & raffles throughout the year. We are happy to adapt the idea to suit individual team requirements, taking into consideration numbers and time constraints. A simple version of the challenge involves seeing how many different auction or raffle prizes each team can source in an allotted time-frame. The team with the most prizes or the most expensive item at the end of the day wins!

“All of the people that we met on the day we so appreciative of the help that we gave them and it made me realise how much they rely on support from volunteer schemes like this. When I think of ‘charity work’ I always think about fund raising, and this really gave me an insight into the other essential assistance that they need. I must admit that I was expecting it to be quite a sad place given the nature of the work that they do, but it was a really positive, friendly and loving atmosphere and such a great charity for RM to be supporting, all of us really enjoyed our time there.”
