Primary Schools play a really important part in raising money for children and young adults with life shortening conditions and their families at Helen & Douglas House.
This year, Children’s Hospice Week is all about celebrating heroes. Schools around the country will be joining the campaign, raising awareness and celebrating the many heroes that help to care for children with life-limiting conditions. You can hold your fundraising day at any time but the week will be officially run from 15th to 22nd May 2010.
Why not get your pupils involved in thinking about their heroes, meet some curriculum needs and raise some money for Helen & Douglas House by getting involved?
You can get involved in lots of ways depending on the age of your pupils and the time you have available. Here are just a few suggestions:
- Poster for children to write the name of their hero on
- Design a hero mask
- Come to school dressed as a hero
Materials we can provide:
- Posters
- 'I'm a Helen & Douglas Hero’ stickers
- Balloons
- Collection boxes
- Mask templates
- Assembly ideas and lessons plans around the hero theme
- Poster to show the children how much they are raising

Want to get more out of the student experience? Want to have fun, make a difference and enhance your CV? Then get involved with Helen & Douglas House!
Students are an imaginative lot who are always keen to get involved. Fundraising for us is no different. Students have raised money by organising balls, having tortoise races, holding themed dinner parties, or simply having a collection tin at the union bar.

Whether you decide to go it alone, involve your mates, or get your societies or student union on board, you will be making a huge difference.
Over 90% of the £4.5 million it costs to run Helen & Douglas House every year comes from voluntary donations, so we rely on people like you to help us continue our support of children and young people with life shortening conditions and their families.
