Volunteer out and about

If you want to apply to volunteer, please download and complete the application form.

Drivers and Chaperones
Helen & Douglas House families may need a lift to a remembrance service, or transport before and after a stay with us. Volunteers may also help take a group of Helen House children on a trip.

- we have our own cars and two mini buses

- we will provide MIDAS training if you want to drive our larger vehicles

- volunteering is on an ad-hoc basis, occasionally at quite short notice

- the children and young people will always be accompanied by a carer or chaperone

Events Volunteers
Do you have limited time to offer? Why not help at our fundraising events? You can choose which events suit you and your time. Before an event we would phone or e-mail you to find out your availability.

- the events are great fun and you will meet lots of interesting people

- help will be varied – maybe marshalling, registering entrants, making tea, selling raffle tickets – in fact anything that needs doing!

- help might be at events like sponsored walks, the Santa Run, parachute jumps, or our annual open day

Friends of Helen & Douglas House: Local Support Groups
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to start up Friends Groups in their area for Helen & Douglas House. This is a great opportunity to raise funds and promote the charity in your community.

Examples of activities Friends Groups get involved with:

  • Attending functions such as Rotary suppers and Elvis extravaganzas
  • Representing Helen & Douglas House by collecting cheques and giving talks
  • Organising activities like balls, concerts or garden parties
  • Using local fundraising opportunities, such as having a stall at an event
  • Helping at Helen & Douglas House events

....but remember each group will be unique!
