Bereavement Support Worker

Type: Permanent - Part Time

Hours: 11.25 hours per week

Salary: Band 5 (£22,128 - £28,746) per year depending on experience

The Charity:

Helen & Douglas House cares for terminally ill children, young adults and their families through exceptional hospice care. We provide medical, emotional and practical support, helping families deal with the implications of living with a child who will die prematurely, so they can make the most of their time together. As a charity we rely almost entirely on donations to support our families.

The Role:

Following a recent retirement we are seeking a self-starter to join our small team of bereavement support workers to work with families of children and young adults who have died. You will be part of a wider team including a Social Worker, Sibling Workers and a Clinical Psychologist. The Family Support and Bereavement Team work alongside the Care Teams to deliver integrated, well-communicated care to families’ pre and post bereavement. 

We are looking for someone with significant experience in palliative care and working with bereaved families. You will have experience of working effectively in a multi-disciplinary team but be able to work independently. You will be able to demonstrate group work skills and you will be an excellent and discrete listener and communicator. You will need to be self-aware and able to maintain a good home / work life balance.
