The radio station Heart has handed over a brand new Mini to Helen & Douglas House, funded by the station’s charity Have a Heart.
Heart is funding the Mini to help Helen & Douglaws House provide care and support to children and young adults with life-shortening conditions and their families in their own homes.
Heart Breakfast presenters Matt and Michelle officially handed over the keys of the Mini to Tom Hill, Chief Executive, Helen & Douglas House. They were also joined by Derek and Rosie, who visit Helen & Douglas House for respite stays.
The donation follows the nationwide Have a Heart Appeal earlier this year which raised over £330,000 for Children’s Hospices UK, the national charity that gives voice and support to all children’s hospices across the UK, enabling Heart to fund a further 27 Minis to other children’s hospices across the country.
The 2011 Appeal included a star-studded fundraising extravaganza featuring a whole host of celebrities and guests including chat-toppers JLS and Westlife, The X Factor’s Matt Cardle, Olly Murs and One Direction, plus comedian and actor Stephen Merchant, alongside Heart presenters including Toby Anstis and Emma Bunton.
Heart Breakfast presenters Matt and Michelle said: “The work that Helen & Douglas House does across the Thames Valley region is truly inspiring and we are delighted to support them. We’d like to thank all our Heart listeners for their amazing generosity with our Have a Heart Appeal. By enabling us to provide the Mini and a donation towards nursing hours, they will make a real difference to improve the lives of seriously ill children and their families in our local area.”
Karen Brombley, Clinical Nurse Consultant, Helen & Douglas House said; ‘It is vital that children and young adults with life shortening conditions can be supported to live their lives to the full; enjoying time at home, at school or anywhere else they happen to be. Having the Heart Mini will really help us take our expertise out to them.’
