On 12th November 250 people attended the Life! Art show at the Imagination Building in London to raise money for Helen & Douglas House.
Fifty three works of art were displayed in a hanging exhibition and included many prestigious works including work by Fred Cuming RA, Peter Kuhfeld, Ken Howard RA, Tacita Dean and Miranda Donovan. Giles Peppiat of Bonhams conducted an auction during the evening which included works by Marc Quinn, Sir Paul McCartney, Valentine Warner, Quentin Blake and Korky Paul. The evening’s host was Will Gompertz, Director of Tate Media who lives in Oxford and is soon to take up his new post as BBC Arts correspondent. Will spoke of the remarkable calibre of work on display. Event Organisers, Kate Day and Lizzie Pickering, said “ We have been overwhelmed by the interest and generosity of so many people in this the first year of our event. The standard of the artwork entered in to the exhibition was beyond our wildest dreams, and the support and expertise leant to us by our advisory panel has been staggering in particular, Burford gallery owner Brian Sinfield.”
The evening made a remarkable £65,000 profit, all of which will go direct to Helen & Douglas House, thanks to the generous support of Centrica. For a copy of the catalogue please call Lizzie Pickering on 07768 351249.
Special thanks go to our Advisory panel: Fanny Arbuthnott, Clare Astor, Catherine Binnie, Francis Hamel, Deborah Hirst, Will Gompertz, Kate Gompertz, Brian Sinfield, Catherine Stebbings and Joanna Virgin and to Gill van Zwanenberg at the stunning Imagination Building.
