We are very pleased to let you know that Helen & Douglas House and The Elephant Club featured on BBC South Tuesday, 9 November, at 6.30*, as part of the lead up to BBC Children in Need Appeal night. The film shows Chiara, whose sister used to visit Helen House, talking about being a member of The Elephant Club and also shows other Helen & Douglas House siblings at one of the sibling camps.
It has yet to be confirmed but the film, or part of it, may also appear on the actual BBC Children in Need appeal night – Friday, 19 November – so do look out for this as well.
The charity received funding (over a three year period 2010-12) through BBC Children in Need to help support The Elephant Club, which is for brothers and sisters of children and young adults who visit, or who visited, Helen & Douglas House. The funding received is a great contribution to this valuable work. The charity will be looking for further funding to continue this vital support for families ongoing.
The Elephant Club’s aim is to provide a safe space for these young people to share experiences and have fun, while being supported by others who understand what they are going through and professionals from Helen & Douglas House. The 1-1 work, group workshops, camps and social activities have been developed from our professional experience and input and feedback from the children and families involved.
