Great Wall of China Trek 2018

Trek for charity this October! Your participation in our fundraising walk could help us raise money for local terminally ill children and young adults.

Stretching over 5,500 miles the Great Wall of China is a remarkable feat of construction and architecture with a history spanning more than 2000 years. The wall, the longest human-made structure on the planet, is located in the North of China and crosses vast deserts, barren plains and snow-capped mountains. Originally built for fortification against invasions from the north, it was once of great strategic importance, today it is counted as one of the seven wonders of the world!

Join us as we explore the legendary Great Wall of China on this fantastic trekking challenge.

Our trek takes the Gubeikou to Simatai route, which features some of the most stunning views of the wall and the surrounding rolling hills. Across 5 days you will take on 50km of this iconic man-made structure trekking through remote villages and towns and meeting local people along the way. The terrain will be mixed, from undulating paths to demanding steep, uneven steps. You really will need to step up to the challenge!
You will finish your adventure with a visit to the famous Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City, giving you an insight into city life in China today.

Dates: 27th October – 4th November 2018
Deposit: £275
Sponsorship: £3600

Why should you put on your trekking shoes for Helen & Douglas House?

Your participation in our fundraising events is going to make a real difference to us – we care for terminally ill children, young adults and their families through exceptional hospice care. It costs over £5 million a year to run the two hospice houses and provide our outreach nursing service, we cannot do this without your help!

We provide medical, emotional and practical support helping families deal with the implications of living with a child who will die prematurely, so they can make the most of their time together.
