We are delighted to announce that garden designer Jane Fearnley-Whittingstall and Head Gardener Richard Roslyn will be joining us. Jane will be speaking at 15:00 on the theme, “Gardening Couples – are two heads always better than one?”, a light-hearted look at the pros and cons of sharing a garden. Richard will then take to the stage to talk about his vision, the garden’s development and what you can look out for as you wander through the gardens.
Throughout the afternoon the Pavlova Wind Quintet will be delighting guests with their impressively broad repertoire, from arrangements of light-hearted favourite tunes to the more substantial classics. The Pavlova Wind Quintet delights in mixing the familiar and the unfamiliar, classical and ethnic, serene and virtuosic.
Situated at the foot of the Berkshire Downs, the part C17 Manor House is a garden of formality and informality. During the late 1990s the grounds went through a major redesign creating new areas within its 10 acres. The Parterre filled with lavender and russian sage sits to the west of the house with a Privy Garden nearby with borders filled with herbaceous planting within box hedging. A kitchen garden is behind the main house with greenhouses producing produce for the owners. Further away from the house the grounds become more informal with streams and a woodland area that invites you to stroll about in a more naturalistic setting. Returning to the house is an wooden arch bridge cloaked in roses and wisteria that gives views of the moat within the grounds. And the most recently created feature is a gravel garden surrounded by a hornbeam allee. It is a garden of many features and planting to be enjoyed.
Afternoon tea will be available, prepared by volunteers and staff of Helen & Douglas House. Donations welcome.
