Without the £5 million a year it takes to keep our doors open, we would have to turn away families at this desperately sad time in their lives.
Our 33 shops bring in around 20% of our income, but this wouldn’t be possible without our fantastic team of volunteers. Between them, they contribute 128,200 hours of their time, worth £1 million in economic value. Their work means we can continue to help terminally ill children and their families in their darkest hours. Giving just 4 hours a week of your time makes an enormous difference.
Not only will you meet new people and gain work experience, but you’ll also be supporting a worthy cause. Our shops are packed with everything from vintage gems to quality pre-loved gifts and clothes, and all the money raised directly helps local families going through unimaginably difficult circumstances.

Why volunteer with Helen & Douglas House?
Did you know that in our region alone, 1 in 300 children and young adults have potentially terminal conditions? Sadly, that figure is increasing. Without the help we receive from our volunteers, caring for these children and their families wouldn’t be possible.
When you give your time to support our shops, you’ll be helping us spread the word about the amazing work we do here at the hospice. Each of our shop volunteers has their own reason for wanting to be part of the Helen & Douglas House team, but here are some of the other great reasons why you should sign up today!

- You’ll be part of a friendly team.
- It’s a great way to make new friends and meet a diverse group of people.
- You’ll gain valuable retail experience and other skills to add to your CV.
- You can make a big difference with just four hours a week.
