Apply for this role

At Helen & Douglas House, we help make life a little more bearable for local families facing the challenges and heartbreak of caring for a terminally ill child. Without the £3.6 million a yearit takes to keep our doors open, we would have to turn away families at this desperately sad time in their lives.

How do I get involved?

The Housekeeping volunteer will work alongside the ‘in-house’ Housekeeping team, maintaining the cleanliness of all communal and public areas within the hospice. Volunteers will undertake light cleaning and dusting duties working as part of a team. This is an energetic role which involves spending time within the clinical environment.

Main responsibilities and duties include:

  • Cleaning communal and public areas.
  • General dusting and vacuuming.
  • Laundry and Ironing.

Time commitment:

Flexible and regular, usually 3 hours a week where possible. A broader commitment of a year volunteering with the charity is desirable.

Experience and training:

We’ll train you in every aspect of your role. You’ll also be required to complete several online mandatory training modules.

Qualities required:

We’re looking for someone who is approachable and friendly, with an appreciation of safeguarding responsibilities and the need for confidentiality.
