We’re well and truly in the Christmas spirit here at the hospice. Last week, we had another Christmas themed day and this time the teenagers from our Network Saturday’s sessions were on the guest list.
With the Christmas tunes on, the morning started with Lego building, canvas painting, gingerbread house making and a particularly lively game of table football while Carissa from our catering team was busy preparing a delicious festive lunch. A few new faces joined the festivities, and it was lovely to see everyone playing and chatting together in their best Christmas jumpers.
A homemade Christmas lunch
The morning’s activities came to an end with the call that lunch was ready – turkey with all the trimmings. Our volunteers helped serve the teens their lunches and everyone sat around the table pulling their crackers and seeing who had the cheesiest jokes. An indulgent Yule Log finished lunch off nicely.
Gingerbread houses and festive quizzes
The gingerbread house making stepped up a gear after lunch with icing, chocolates and fizzy laces being scattered across some unique gingerbread houses (and some for snacking too!) It’s not about building a picture-perfect masterpiece, it’s about having fun and the young people were proud to show off their creations each with its own unique story.
To finish off a very festive day, it was time for a quiz! Everyone teamed up to answer questions about Christmas and there were even some Gen Z themed questions to trip up the adults too!
It wouldn’t be a Christmas party without presents! Each of the teenagers got to choose one of the Lego sets that were kindly donated to the hospice.
We’d like to thank Carissa for cooking the amazing Christmas lunch, each one of our dedicated volunteers who helped make the day extra special, and of course to Dani and Emma, our support workers who put their all into making days like this, and events throughout the year possible.
