This Children’s Hospice Week, we’re opening the doors to the magic that happens every day at Helen & Douglas House, and we’re thrilled to share that our hospice has been featured in the June edition of Prima Magazine, which reaches over 218,000 readers.
The article highlights the incredible work of children’s hospices like ours and the life-changing support they provide to families during the most difficult times. Prima spoke to two of our families who know first-hand just how important this care is.
Meet Siobhan
Siobhan shares how Helen & Douglas gave her the chance to create precious memories with her newborn son Ryan before he died in her arms at nine days old.
“From the minute we arrived at Helen & Douglas House, all was calm, quiet and very caring. We were given a little family flat. Paul and I spent three days that followed watching films with Ryan or pushing him in a pram around the sunny grounds. It was the most meaningful gift anyone could have given us – to be a family at last.”

Meet Jenny
For Jenny’s family, Helen & Douglas House became a lifeline. Nathan, Jenny’s son, was born with Prader-Willi syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that affects the body, metabolism and behaviour. Exhausted and overwhelmed, Jenny found a safe haven at the hospice – a place not only for respite and pain relief, but also for joy and happy memories.
“It’s his favourite place in the world.”

Powerful reminders
These stories are a powerful reminder of why public support for children’s hospices is so vital. Behind the big red door at Helen & Douglas House, families find care, comfort and treasured time together – moments that will last a lifetime.
