Why your support matters

Pioneering the future of Children’s Hospice Care

At Helen & Douglas House, we believe every child deserves to live a full life – no matter how short – and every family deserves compassionate, expert support through the most difficult times.

Our new brochure sets out a bold and ambitious vision: to lead the way in children’s hospice care across the UK. It’s a call to action for everyone who shares our belief that care should be pioneering, personal, and profoundly human.

Why we exist

More children than ever are living with life-limiting conditions. By 2030, the number of children needing palliative care could rise by 30%.

Families are asking for care that is closer to home, more responsive, and more holistic. Yet statutory funding covers just 10–14% of what’s needed.

We must act now to reshape children’s palliative care in the UK.

Our Vision: Every life is a full life. Every death is a dignified death.

We are committed to:

  • Delivering care that adapts to the evolving needs of children and families.
  • Learning and innovating, so our services reflect the latest thinking and best practice.
  • Collaborating with partners to transform the national landscape of paediatric palliative care.

What your support makes possible

Your generosity fuels real-world impact. With your help, we can:

  • Establish local hubs to reach more families in more places.
  • Invest in our hospice building to create modernised spaces that promote comfort and wellbeing.
  • Train nurses to lead on care, expanding their expertise in areas like perinatal support and complementary therapies.
  • Advance research and education to influence national and international standards.
