Equality Act 2010 and Accessibility guidelines
According to the Equality Act 2010, no user should be excluded from being able to view and use a website. Here at Helen & Douglas House, we work hard to ensure our website abides to the Equality Act 2010 and follows guidelines specified by organisations like RBIN and W3C Web Accessibility Initiative, which include:
- Using ALT Tags – We use ALT tags for all images to provide descriptive text for visually impaired users using computer aids. Their computer aids are capable of reading the description to them, so they can understand the pictures on our website and any related text.
- Using descriptive hyperlink text – Helen & Douglas House has created descriptive links to provide users with the proper context of where clicking the link will take them to. The descriptions will make sense to people using screen readers and allow them to fully understand what they are clicking on.
- Using an easy-to-see web colour scheme and fonts – As you will have noticed, Helen & Douglas House has recently received a new web design, featuring a high contrast colour scheme that we believe is accessible to all users. We have made every effort to ensure the font types; sizes and colours on our website are easy to read.
- Text size – Our website has been designed with what we believe is the optimal text size for all, however if you would like to change the text size displayed, you can change the option in your web browser. To do this:
To change the font size on this website, either choose an accessible version or modify your browser settings. To change your browser settings, select “View” from your browser’s toolbar, choose “Text Size” and the sub-menu appears with the text size options. Choose a larger size than your current option (marked with a bullet point).
