In June, a group of the siblings joined Rosa and Laura from the Siblings Team, and Westbury Bee Group at Westbury Arts Centre in Milton Keynes for a buzzing sunny day of beekeeping.

The children all got kitted up in beekeeping suits complete with antenna and there were lots of laughs and jokes as they got to meet the bees and learn all about the important job they do for the environment. From getting up close tending to their hives, to learning all about the types of bees and the delicious honey they produce, the day was a hive of activity.

The children also got the chance to get creative by making and decorating their own beeswax candle to take home.

The benefits of siblings group days

Getting together for group days out like this really helps boost the children’s confidence and allows them to relax, bond and be themselves in a safe and understanding environment. Much like the bees themselves, the siblings are stronger as a group and making friendships now can have big positive lifelong impacts.

Beekeeping has also been shown to have huge positive impacts on mental health, and for many of the children, this was truly a unique experience for them making a day they’ll never forget.

What it means to families

The sibling’s clubs make an impact on the whole family. Whether it’s getting to experience something completely new, making new friends or having time away from the everyday, one day can make a truly lasting impact.

Both Oishie and Lilidh had a super fun day beekeeping. They really really enjoyed it and I think they interacted more with the other siblings than they have at other activities. we really do appreciate these sessions – Nicola, Oshie and Lilidh’s mum
