Baking Volunteer

How do I get involved?

Baking Volunteers are free to come and bake at any time during the week, morning afternoons or even early evening if it suits you. The role is within the heart of the clinical space – filling our house with the wonderful smells of home.

Time commitment:

We’re looking for a commitment of 2-3 hours per week for a one year minimum.

Experience and training:

Some experience of domestic or commercial baking is very useful, but by no means essential, your passion and enthusiasm will be honed by our amazing catering team. You’ll be expected to attend the Helen & Douglas House induction (half a day, online) and to complete several online mandatory training modules.

Responsibilities:

  • Baking fresh cakes, pastries, cookies. What you bake is up to you, we provide the ingredients.
  • Awareness of the importance of allergy management.
  • Clearing up the area once baking has finished.

Qualities required:

  • Approachable and friendly with a team-orientated attitude.
  • Willingness to work in the clinical environment.
