Band 8a Head of Professional Development

Our Learning & Development Team act as a valuable central resource for the whole organisation – we invite you to become part of it! As Head of Professional Development, and a Registered Nurse by profession, you will work alongside our Learning & Development Lead and Professional Development Nurses to deliver the L&D agenda within HDH’s organisational strategy and develop our clinical leaders for the future.

Helen & Douglas House is a registered hospice charity based in Oxford, providing palliative, respite, end-of-life and bereavement care to life-limited children and their families. Hospice care is often profoundly misunderstood: the work we do is uplifting, positive and the impact we have is life changing! Our hospice is a bright, dynamic, and joyful place to work, providing a lovely outdoor garden space for our patients and staff to both enjoy. We foster a climate where team members feel able to openly question, debate and appropriately challenge their own and the practice of others to achieve clinical excellence.

We strive for our staff to have access to a wide range of learning opportunities to ensure they are knowledgeable and competent to carry out their role in the delivery and support of high-quality specialist children’s palliative care. As such, the postholder will be responsible for the development of specific internal and external education. You will lead in developing a workforce for the future, enabling the scope and reach of the care that is delivered to be extended.

You will part of the Senior Clinical Leadership Team and as part of this team you will have influence and accountability for the strategic direction of the Clinical Service and the Governance that supports a safe, compassionate, and holistic care. You will share knowledge and support local and national networks in professional Development and Children’s palliative care.

Your excellent communication, engagement and motivational skills will help you in negotiations where persuasion and gaining buy-in may be required. You will find yourself interpreting national guidelines on education for professional groups and working with relevant professional managers within the organisation to define staff development implementation plans.

Informal enquiries welcomed and encouraged. Interview date 10th November 2022.
