“Developing my data skills to help us attract and retain the people who make compassionate care possible“
National Apprenticeships Week is a time to recognize and celebrate the hugely valuable development routes they offer people in the workplace. Whatever stage an employee is in their career, an apprenticeship – far from being an entry level option as some may assume – can help employees build up skills that will help them thrive in their future careers. Apprenticeships are something Helen & Douglas are very proud to support, and we see many employees thrive in their roles because of doing an apprenticeship.
“Apprenticeships have been a fantastic way for me to boost my confidence and grow my career so far. Helen & Douglas House is a wonderful place to continue my learning while helping local children and families”
Matt Twinn, our Recruitment Business Partner in our People Team, is about to embark on a 2-year Data Driven Professional apprenticeship in March. He had previously completed a CIPD Level 5 HR Partner apprenticeship in his former role which gave him two qualifications at once and helped strengthen his HR expertise which he uses everyday with Helen & Douglas House. Now, his new apprenticeship which is funded by Hospice UK intends to improve his skills with data; how to interpret it, present it and use it to better inform vital decisions within teams at Helen & Douglas House.
Learning Power BI will allow Matt to create dashboards for improving presentation, visualising trends, and communicating insights in a way that is accessible and compelling to stakeholders. All of which will transform the way we use our recruitment data and the Networx platform reporting features, by being able to interpret trends, visualise insights, and make informed recommendations.
Matt’s career journey is a great example of how apprenticeships can evolve and change with a person and what their next steps are. Apprenticeships helped Matt stay on top of the skills he needed to make his next career move and helped him stay confident in his skillset in an ever-changing job market. With new ways of working emerging all the time, continuing learning is not just about adding more to your CV, it’s about giving employees a structured, supported way to keep pace with these changes instead of fearing them.
