In today’s fast-paced work environment, encouraging team spirit and camaraderie is more important than ever. A great way to achieve this is through team charity challenges. Participating in these events not only brings employees together but also contributes to a greater cause. Our recent Snowdon Sunrise trek is a perfect example of the benefits of team charity challenges, and we hope to inspire other teams to join our upcoming Bubble Rush event in September.
Meet Christina. We spoke to Christina from our HR team, who recently completed the Snowdon Sunrise trek alongside her HR colleagues. Let’s delve into her experience and discover the benefits from taking part in a charity challenge as a team.
Teamwork and support
The Snowdon trek was an unforgettable experience. Despite the physical and mental challenges, I’m so incredibly proud of everyone who took part and am grateful to have shared the trek with my colleagues. As a team this has brought us closer together as we encouraged one another during training, fundraising and the hike itself. During those gruelling moments when our legs were burning and we were drenched from the rain, the support from each other kept us going. Words of encouragement and shared stories made the journey not just bearable but memorable. We now share a memory and experience we will never forget.
Strengthening team dynamics
The HR team encouraged each other all throughout the trek. Even when we had to split up on the descent due to medical reasons, the support and coordination remained strong. Serena, one of my colleagues accompanied me while the rest of the team continued together, showcasing our ability to adapt and support each other, just like we do in our work environment. Our communication has always been good, but this experience has given us even more to talk about and cherish.
Personal and professional growth
I turn 40 this year so I wanted to challenge myself to complete something big. It just happened to also be worthwhile at the same time. I’ve never done anything like this before and the prospect of sunrise at the top of a mountain sounded inspiring and exciting. I expected the physical challenge but hiking for six hours in rain and cold pushed me to limits I didn’t think possible and was definitely more of a mental challenge than I expected. The support from my colleagues and distractions like singing songs or telling stories was much needed, since sadly we didn’t have the beautiful views that we were hoping for.
Motivation through charity
I have been proud to talk about Helen & Douglas House and to share news of the challenge on social media. This enabled me to talk about the vital services provided by the charity which led to generous donations from friends and family. This support was a constant reminder of why we were pushing ourselves and motivated me not to give up. I am looking forward to supporting Helen & Douglas House again at the Bubble Rush in September, this time with my five-year-old daughter Zoey.
Take on a charity challenge with your team
To any teams or companies considering a charity challenge, I say: do it – you won’t regret it! Everyone can participate in some way, whether by joining the physical challenge, cheering from the sidelines, or spreading the word within their network. Our Snowdon trek included a practice walk followed by a celebratory pub lunch, adding a lovely social element to the challenge. The camaraderie and uplifting spirit during the event were truly inspiring.
Thank you, Christina, for sharing your experiences with us. Congratulations to you and the HR team on completing this incredible challenge!
