FAQ’s

Training is run throughout the morning and you will receive a full health and safety briefing. After the briefing, you will be strapped to the front of an experienced Tandem Instructor who is there to control the skydive for you. Then it’s time to head to the aircraft!

You’ll leave the plane at 13,000 feet* and accelerate to a speed of 120 mph, covering every thousand feet in approximately five seconds.

At 5,000 feet, the Instructor will deploy the parachute, which will then be controlled by both people until you land softly and gently some four minutes later.

Each cycle of skydivers lasts roughly 20 minutes. The whole event is expected to last half a day. We cannot guarantee the exact time of your skydive as it’s done on a first-come, first-served basis. Please be prepared to spend several hours at the airfield.

*Weather and air traffic restrictions may apply.

Participants must be over the age of 16. There is no upper age limit as long as you are physically fit and healthy you can self-declare by completing BPA medical form 115A which is attached to all booking confirmations.

The maximum weight limit for the tandem skydive is 15 stone (95 Kilos). Divers will be weighed, fully clothed, on the morning of the jump.

Temperatures can change on the day so it’s important that you wear plenty of layers to keep you warm. It’s better to wear lots of smaller layers as opposed to one big bulky layer. Wear soft-heeled shoes, trainers are a good example. Tracksuit bottoms or leggings would be a good example of what to wear on your bottom half, shorts not advised.

Yes, the average temperature at 13,000ft is between -10 and -14. Please ensure you wear lots of layers.

Yes, absolutely. We encourage friends and family to come and join us on the day.

If you’d like to be on the same flight as your friend it’s important that you arrive together as training is done in groups. Flights are done in groups of 3-4 people after you’ve had your training.

There are only 3 conditions that will cancel the jump: solid rain, solid low-level cloud or a wind speed above 20 knots per hour. If you are concerned, the skydiving centre will be able to confirm. You can call them on 01295 812300. We will also call the skydive centre on the morning of your dive to double-check weather conditions at the airfield.

Please read the full terms and conditions before registering.

The Angel Mums Nicky, Rachel and Mary on the ground

Meet the Angel Mums who skydived in March

On Sunday 24th March, three incredible mums took part in a tandem skydive and raised thousands of pounds for Helen & Douglas House – a place they hold dear to their hearts.

Nicky, Rachel and Mary, who named themselves Angel Mums, all lost a child in the same three-month period in 2021. Their three children, Elara, Zac and Neve, were all cared for at the hospice and the Angel Mums met through a peer support group run by the hospice’s bereavement team.

Rachel said – “As we embarked on this crazy challenge we held Zac, Elara and Neve at the forefront of our minds but also the amazing work that this charity does.”

Craig, Ella's dad and previous skydiver

“I had an experience of a lifetime. Everyone was just so brave and lovely. We felt so proud of each other for jumping and knowing we were all doing it to help Helen & Douglas House which made it so special.

We will remember this day for the rest of our lives.”

Why should you skydive for Helen & Douglas House?

Helen & Douglas House has been caring for local terminally ill children and their families since 1982. We help children and their families at our hospice, at home and in hospital with respite stays, pain relief, symptom management, end-of-life care and bereavement support.

We rely on the generosity of the public to keep our doors open, with voluntary donations from individuals making up a large portion of the funding we need to run the hospice service.

Your participation in our fundraising events makes a real difference to us and will transform the lives of the children and families we support.
