Emily Martin, aged 11, from Chesterton, near Bicester, held a bake sale at Microsoft in Reading on Tuesday 13th February, to raise money for Helen & Douglas House. She baked and decorated 300 cakes which took nearly two days! She also set up a Just Giving Page for people who weren’t able to get to the sale and has raised over £3,000 for Helen & Douglas House, for her local children’s hospice.

Emily has already raised over £1,300 by holding bake sales over the last few years to raise money for Helen & Douglas House.

Emily said “I wanted to help Helen & Douglas House because my friend was poorly with cancer and then moved to Helen & Douglas House. I wanted to help make the children there feel more comfortable and to give them some happy times. It took a day to bake all the cakes and half a day to ice them all but it was absolutely worth it! Thank you for all the donations from friends, family and neighbours.”

Emily’s mum, Jo Martin who took part in the charity’s Riverside Stomp last September said “We are so proud of what Emily is doing in memory of Izzy and to help others in their time of need. Her target is to fundraise £5,000 this year for Helen and Douglas which I’m sure she will easily achieve!”

Alison Hooker, Community Fundraising Manger said “We are so grateful to Emily for choosing to raise money for Helen & Douglas. We rely on donations like this to care for local terminally ill children and cannot do this without the help of amazing people like Emily.”
