Shop with us and help local families dealing with terminal illness

Helen & Douglas House cares for local terminally ill babies, children, and their families in our hospice in Oxford and at home. As a charity, our shops provide 20% of the £3.6 million income we need each year to keep providing this invaluable support to families facing the unimaginable prospect of losing a child. Each time you shop with us, you’re helping us to help local families make the most of the precious time they have left together.

We’ve missed you and look forward to welcoming you back

We are looking forward to starting to welcome our customers back to our charity shops during Children’s Hospice Week from Thursday 25th June, to raise money to help local terminally ill children. The shops which will open first on 25th June will be our Oxford shops in Rose Hill and Summertown and our Woodley shop in Reading which will be open Thursday to Saturday that week and then Tuesday – Saturday from 10am – 4pm. We plan to open our other branches in phases during the next few months.

Most shops will have a ‘drop and go’ donation area where there is space during opening hours, where customers can drop off their donations without having to go inside the shops. Please do not leave donations outside our shops until they have re-opened.

Our priority is to ensure that our shops are safe for our customers, volunteers and staff. There will be many new measures to ensure everyone can work and shop safely including social distancing. All donations will be quarantined for at least 72 hours, before they are sorted and clothing will be steam cleaned using professional equipment. Homeware and other items will be washed or wiped down before they are displayed.

For the moment we will not be operating our furniture collection and delivery service.

Thank you for your patience and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Pop into your local Helen & Douglas House charity shops and see what bargains you’ll find. Not only will you save money, but you’ll get the warm feeling that comes from knowing you’re helping families in need.

Before you set off to visit us, please make sure to check our opening times.
