Running for Bobby

“Helen & Douglas House were there for us during our most vulnerable time… Now we’re running the Oxford Half Marathon so that when other families need help, the hospice is there for them too.”

– Faith & Calum, Bobby’s parents

When Bobby's family arrived at Helen & Douglas House, they were exhausted after months of hospital stays, difficult decisions, uncertainty and heartbreak. In Bobby's final hours, the hospice provided expert care, practical support and, most importantly, a peaceful space where the family could simply be together.

Belle's first Oxford Half Marathon

“Running the Oxford Half Marathon is going to be enormously challenging… But I’m determined to give back to the team that keep showing up for Rory and me.” – Belle, Rory’s Mum

For mum Belle, walking through the doors of Helen & Douglas House feels like a weight being lifted from her shoulders. Following her son Rory's diagnosis with a rare and life-limiting form of epilepsy, the hospice has become a place of support, friendship and joy for them both.

Our Care Team Runners

Four members of our wonderful clinical team - Emily, Jill, Thevuni and Alison, will be taking on the Oxford Half Marathon.

They’re swapping their scrubs for running shoes and taking on the route dressed as beds! Complete with pillows, duvets, nightcaps and teddy bears, their costumes will spread joy and be among the most recognisable on the course.

The difference a bed makes

Every bed at Helen & Douglas House represents expert 1:1 medical care for a seriously ill child and precious time for parents to simply be Mum and Dad again.

Medical Director, Dr Emily Harrop, says:

"As doctors and nurses, we see every day the difference that hospice care makes. We see parents getting a chance to rest, siblings spending quality time together and children making memories that will last a lifetime."

By helping our team of 300+ runners raise £200k, you'll ensure more local families can access vital care support when they need it most.
