This September, our Youth and Transition team hosted a fun-filled weekend of movies, music, baking and more for the young people who come to Helen & Douglas House.
Dani, from our Youth and Transition team, shared this brilliant roundup of the event:
What an absolutely epic Youth Weekend! Where do we even begin?
We're still smiling as we look back on an incredible weekend. We feel immensely proud to be part of something so special, alongside wonderful young people, families and colleagues who make weekends like this possible.
Friday
The weekend got off to a great start on Friday evening with Domino's pizza, a film night (Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu) and plenty of apple juice Slush Puppies, which were a big hit.
It was a lovely opportunity to relax, spend time together and settle into the weekend ahead.
Saturday
On Saturday, we headed from Helen House into Oxford for a trip to the Westgate shopping centre, where we enjoyed a fantastic meal together at Dirty Bones.

Back at Helen House, we held our very first Helen & Douglas House Music Festival, and it certainly didn't disappoint! We were joined by five brilliant bands who helped create an amazing atmosphere throughout the day. Alongside the music, there was plenty to get involved in, including face painting, henna, mocktails, crafting activities, a Bhangra drumming workshop and an acrobatics show.

It was a busy and full-on day, but one that was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone involved. We were especially proud of the young people throughout the weekend, particularly during our trip out to the Westgate. They embraced every opportunity, supported one another and threw themselves into everything that was on offer with enthusiasm and confidence.

Sunday
After such a packed Saturday, Sunday morning was a little more relaxed. We enjoyed our annual Youth Weekend Bake Off competition before rounding off the weekend with a delicious roast dinner, joined by some of the young people’s families.

Thank You
A huge thank you goes to everyone who helped Emma (Youth and Transition Worker) and I make this weekend possible. Weekends like this take a huge amount of planning and support behind the scenes, and we're incredibly grateful to our colleagues, volunteers and the generosity of Helen & Douglas House supporters for helping bring it all together.
We can't quite believe the weekend is over already. Seeing the young people we support make memories, build friendships and enjoy new experiences is exactly why our Youth & Transition group is so special, and we're grateful to have shared every moment with them.
Now - time to start planning the next one!
Thanks Dani!
