Helen & Douglas House Survival Island 2019

Event details

September 20, 2019

Looking for adventure? Take part in our survival challenge on a remote island off the coast of Wales.

Once famous among smugglers and pirates, this remote island has been lost in the seas of time. Rugged, inhospitable and wind-swept. The island is home to nothing but seagulls and sheep. Limited space available so make sure to book now!

Date: 20-22 September 2019
Registration fee: £60
Fundraising target: £750 £600!

You will need to build your own shelter and fire for warmth, design weapons you can use to fend off creatures of the night and learn how to navigate the rugged terrain of Survival Island. Each challenge will earn you Survival Bullion.

The team with the most Bullion will be the winner. This two-night survival challenge will test your mental, physical and team-working skills. Aided by ex-Royal Marine Commandos and survival instructors, you will need to master starting fires and building shelters before the darkness closes in. Concentration, courage and a can-do attitude are a must!

Here are some suggestions for how you could meet your fundraising target:

Find out more about our Survival Island’s programme

Day 1
You will rendezvous with your team in the afternoon for pick up at Cardiff’s Mermaid Quay. The meeting time varies depending on tide timings and will be sent to you shortly after registration. You will then board ribbed fast boats for transfer to Survival Island. The tide and weather can make the crossing choppy – be sure to bring your sea legs! Your survival experience begins the moment you set foot on Survival Island – you will build your shelter and start a fire for warmth.

Day 2
Today starts at sunrise. You will need to start a fire to cook breakfast, before the day’s challenges begin. You will need to demonstrate essential survival skills, such as navigation, purifying water, building weapons and memory recall. Our team of survival experts will be on hand to offer guidance and determine the winners of each challenge. Do you have what it takes?

Day 3
Another early start to collapse camp and the final set of challenges. You will be put through your paces, testing everything you have learned over the past two days. The final challenge will be lighting your signal fire on the beach to attract rescue. Succeed, and you’ll be on your way to dry land. If you don’t, you could be calling Survival Island home for the foreseeable future.
