Helen & Douglas House is the world’s first children’s hospice. We’re proud to have welcomed thousands of families through our doors since we were established 43 years ago – we couldn’t have done it without the kindness of supporters like you.
The parents we support describe our amazing, around-the-clock care as being a lifeline in the toughest of times – and our hospice roof has sheltered families every step of the way, helping us create a warm and compassionate environment where every moment counts.
Four decades of weathering have taken their toll on our buildings. Only by acting now, before the weather turns and more damage occurs, can we prevent further problems in the months and years to come. Please help us get the job done.

What is the Fix the Roof appeal?
‘Fix the Roof’ is a donation appeal organised by Helen & Douglas House that is aiming to raise £44,000 to fund essential repair work needed in the roofs of our buildings. During one of our inspections, we discovered that urgent repair work was needed to fix and protect them from heavy rains and further weathering. We have a few weeks to raise what we need to be able to protect our hospice and surrounding buildings before the winter months and for years to come.
Why is this work happening now?
We have an incredible team that work across our buildings to ensure that they are built to last for both the families that we support, as well as everyone who works in them. Every area of the hospice and surrounding buildings, including our roofs, are carefully maintained by our team. However, we’ve found that these simple repairs won’t be enough for our roofs this year, and that we need to start this project now before the damage gets any worse.
How will my donation to the Fix the Roof appeal be used?
Every gift kindly donated to the Fix the Roof appeal will be used towards funding the roof repair and maintenance work of Helen & Douglas House.
In the event that we cannot use your donation as originally intended, e.g. costs change, additional funds are received over and above our £44,000 target, the needs of the hospice change, or the project is no longer deliverable, we reserve the right to redirect funds for use in accordance with the chartable objects of Helen & Douglas House.
What is the deadline for donations to Fix the Roof?
Our community of supporters have just a few weeks to get involved in this appeal and be a part of our Fix the Roof team! Please send your donation to us before 6th August 2025 to guarantee that it will be a part of this project.
What happens to donations sent after the target has been reached?
If we reach our target of £44,000, any donations kindly sent in afterwards will be used for other areas of our work, wherever the need is the greatest.
