Bereavement support
We offer bereavement support to families following the death of their child. We offer bereavement support to families, for up to two years, following the death of their child. We do this via a named bereavement support worker, and through groups and events for bereaved , parents, siblings and families.
Our support is individualised and will involve us being there to listen and to provide emotional and practical support. There is no right or wrong way to grieve, and our team are here to support families however they are feeling.
What we can offer
Bereavement support group
Forget Me Not group – For parent(s) in their first year of bereavement. They meet every month, for six months, on a Saturday morning for two hours. The aim of the group is to provide a safe space for parents to express the impact of their loss, understand a little about grief theory, and find companionship and support with others.
Referral for bereavement support
Bereavement support is available to families within our Oxfordshire catchment area, or to those who died in our local hospitals as long as that family, bereaved of a child, are not currently accessing support elsewhere.
In-Memory events
Join us at a memorial event – Come together with other families to celebrate your child’s memory through events which in the past have included a springtime Memory Walk, or perhaps you could take on a personal challenge.
Remembrance Event
Every year we hold a Remembrance Event, at Helen & Douglas House, for the bereaved families we support. It’s an opportunity to come together with staff and other families. The event usually takes place in September.
The Keepsake Circle
We’re proud to be working in partnership with The Keepsake Circle. Internationally acclaimed songstress, Kiki Deville, and award-winning songwriter Angus Powell are the pair behind the project and they have been working with families we support to tell the stories and memories of their bereaved child through uniquely produced original songs.
Remember your child
Create a free Online Memory Box – Post photos, songs and videos, leave messages and share stories in memory of your child. Share the link to your Online Memory Box to friends and family so that they can remember your child too, either on special occasions or just when they’re thinking about them.
