Our Home Support Volunteer Service

We have specially trained volunteers who can help you with regular jobs or activities for your family, in your home, garden or in your local area.

At Helen & Douglas House we have specially trained volunteers who can help you with regular jobs or activities for your family, in your home, garden or in your local area.

We can provide DBS checked Home Support Volunteers, for families living in Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Northamptonshire, Wiltshire, and Buckinghamshire for a maximum of 18 months.

If you would like a Home Support Volunteer, we will work with you to identify which member of the family may need some extra support and what the most helpful service would be for you.

Help could include supporting siblings, e.g. playing games, or with homework, through to supporting with housework, gardening, or helping on family day trips out.

A Home Support Volunteer could do any of these tasks for you

Housework

Ironing

Sibling play and homework

Visits with the family for hospital appointments or days out

Walking the dog

Gardening

Tutoring siblings subject to agreement with their school

Shopping

Your family can be referred by the Helen & Douglas House Care Team or Family Support Team, or you can apply by emailing us at volunteering@helenanddouglas.org.uk.

The Home Support Volunteer Co-ordinator will contact your family by phone, to assess what support would be of most benefit, and the best days and times. We will then try and find you a Home Support Volunteer who lives in your area.

The time this will take will depend on the availability of volunteers in your area. Once a suitable Home Support Volunteer becomes available, the Home Support Volunteer Co-ordinator will visit your family and introduce you to them.
