Estates Team Volunteer

Are you able to offer your free time as a volunteer? If so then this could be the role for you!

We have an opportunity for a Volunteer with our team based in Oxford but with travel to our shops too. This is a part time, voluntary position.

Helen & Douglas House (HDH) offers respite and end of life care to families who have a child with a life limiting condition. It has a small Estates team to maintain the buildings and the general fabric of the Hospice. We are looking for volunteers with DIY experience to volunteer alongside the team within the hospice to support the team with general repairs at both HDH and to assist with maintenance in our shops if required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Estates team members who are responsible for the maintenance in our shops as well as at our hospice.
  • General maintenance duties such as repairs, painting, building checks and moving furniture.
  • Providing a prompt and friendly service (as required).
  • Helping to maintain the HDH vehicles.
  • Assist with other areas (if required) such as gardening.

Time Commitment

  • Preferably on a regular day and with a year’s commitment to the role.
  • One or two days a week 8am to 4pm.  We can be flexible later in the week.

Experience & Training

  • We are looking for someone with general DIY experience or work in trades.
  • All training requirements are included as part of the role and they will be safeguarding, confidentiality and aspects of health & safety.

Qualities Required

  • Ideally, you are practical, logical, and able to work as instructed.
  • But most importantly we need a reliable and friendly person, with the ability to work sensitively within a children’s clinical environment.
