Hairdressing volunteer

We are looking for a qualified hairdresser to visit the Hospice in Oxford and cut hair for the families of patients in our care.

You will join a welcoming team and do a valuable support role that will make a big difference to the wellbeing of the families using our service.

The requests we get will be ad hoc form families when they attend the hospice with their children and so requests may be at short notice.  You can come on a regular or occasional basis as fits your other commitments, although we find an overall commitment of at least one year works best for all.

Ideal volunteers are reliable and have a good level of self-awareness as well as being good listeners with good communication skills.  Empathy with an understanding of boundaries and confidentiality when working with families is needed, while experience of working with families is advantageous but not essential.

Volunteers are entitled to claim travel expenses in line with our Expenses Policy.  Refreshments are provided during your shift and a lunch allocation can be claimed.

Helen & Douglas House is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We are an equal opportunities employer and value the benefits of a diverse workforce. We positively encourage applications from all areas of the community.
