Network Saturday Volunteer

We are looking for volunteers to help out with our regular Network Saturdays.

The Network Saturday is a social youth group for teenage patients at Helen House. It provides an independent and safe space for young people to have fun, socialise and share experiences.  The group meets approximately once every six weeks and involves a whole range of different activities every time that you can get involved in and support the young adults who come along.

It also promotes independence and confidence and builds on social and life skills.

You will be assisting the Youth Workers and young people in activities of various kinds including board games arts and crafts trips out locally, as well as providing physical support where required – passing items to the young person and setting them up for lunch.  These events promote the general wellbeing of the young people.

The Network Saturday events run every six weeks or so and go from around 10am to 4pm each time.  Because of the timing, ideally we are looking for a commitment of at least one year, but there is no obligation to attend every date scheduled.

While no specific previous experience is required, some previous experience of children with disabilities may be helpful.  The ideal volunteer should have an easy-going nature, with a good sense of fun and positive outlook, as well as being able to engage with teenagers and staff alike.  An enjoyment of crafts, board games and an ability to fit in with a new group and be a general support would be welcomed.

For more information, please see the Role Profile and if you are interested in joining us then please click “Apply” now!

Volunteers are entitled to claim travel expenses in line with our Expenses Policy.  Refreshments are provided during your shift and a free lunch can be claimed from the hospice kitchen for shifts of three hours or more.

Helen & Douglas House is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We are an equal opportunities employer and value the benefits of a diverse workforce. We positively encourage applications from all areas of the community.
